Game of Thrones TV show brings attention to Iceland, and The Vikings TV show brings the Fjords to life. King in Norse is Kong, but King Kong never filmed here! The Fjords are special and diverse. From snow and ice and Northern Lights to green valleys of tall mountains. People travel from all over the world to join ships going down the Fjords, so the makeup of passengers becomes far more diverse. The water in the Fjords is calm, the sea outside can be rough. The distance between mountains each side is atmospheric where it makes you think of the Vikings or Greek Mythology, it is so very different to a sea cruise. Here are the most popular stops.BERGEN FLAM OLDEN SKJOLDEN STAVANGER Some stops are no more than small wooden villages, where the ship guests outnumber the locals. IN BRIEF: You sail past Kvinnherad, the location of the Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis 1958 blockbuster The Vikings to get to the small village of Eidfjord that has the largest high mountain plateau (Hardangervidda) and Norway’s largest national park. Eidfjord itself has some of the dramatic at sea visions of the film, the village has a 14th-century church and the largest collection of ancient graves in western Norway at its Viking Burial Place.
This claims to be the place where King Harald Fairhair united the Vikings into one, not that they stayed one for long. There is a museum and the Viking Village. A longer trip will find waterfalls. Enjoy the waterfront.
