Ajaccio Wine Tasting Tour

Ajaccio is a small town, and if you have been there once, you may wonder what to do. For one Euro you can get the number 4 bus along the bay and into the hills to the Peraldi Vineyard. There, for just a few Euros, you can taste 6 wines. If you look along the bay it is obvious that the island is building a cable car up to the hills. The top is where we are headed. Located on these hills of Mezzavia, overlooking the Gulf of Ajaccio and your cruise ship, the Comte Peraldi estate has long been one of the jewels of the Island’s wine culture. But it is small, so it is not an organised excursion.

Abandoned in 1905 upon John Peraldi’s passing, the property was rebuilt in 1965 by Louis, Count de Poix, his grandson. He was concerned about producing quality wines, and he worked alongside fellow winegrowers for the creation and recognition of the AOC Ajaccio, obtained in 1971.

Then came in 1988, the second generation of wine makers. Guy, Count de Poix, third son of Louis de Poix. They now produce a wonderful range of Corsican wines; Red, white, or rosé and they are certified organic wines, which are easy to enjoy. Too easy, and the day can just vanish. As you will discover, the female airess married the Count of Poix, and the family continues the journey through time. The villa is a charming historic property.
