Cape Town, South Africa

This garden of wine and golf has features that include Robbin Island and Table Mountain but we start with the penguins.A day is not enough. If you just want to see a penguin, there are normally penguins at the refreshment area on Robben Island. The coach stops here for about ten minutes. If you just want the penguin film, including those at Robben Island, and do not wish to see the Capmans Peak Drive, click below.

From Cape Town, the nearest penguin colony is about 40 minutes to an hour away. The larger one is further, so most tours will take you to Boulders Beach. It is just past the centre of Simon’s Town. The Cape of Good Hope is another 40 minutes to an hour there and the same back. The motorway will be slightly faster, but it is more likely you will take the coast road out, which is called Chapman’s Peak Drive. It is a toll road that winds its way between Noordhoek and Hout Bay on the Atlantic Coast on the south-western tip of South Africa. There is a point where you will cut across the land to the Indian Ocean side, and head for the South African Naval village of Simon’s Town. The video shows where you turn down to see the penguins, so if you are travelling by car take note as it is not overly signed.
