Chantiers de l’Atlantique – Shipbuilders

Chantiers de l’Atlantique is a shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France. Since its creation, and now one of the world’s largest shipyards, they have delivered more than 150 passenger ships. Now they are larger, more innovative, and offer more and more entertainment to create an unforgettable experience at sea. Now the ships are recognized for their efficiency. The Research and Development team continuously work on new types of fuel and new power generation systems. Located near Nantes, at the mouth of the Loire river and the deep waters of the Atlantic.

The current passenger ship contracts are focused on these ships.

MSC – Ordered by MSC Cruises in 2014, the ships from the Meraviglia series are part of the fourth series of ships built by Chantiers de l’Atlantique. MSC Meraviglia, the first unit of the series delivered in May 2017, was followed by MSC Bellissima in March 2019, MSC Grandiosa in October 2020 and finally MSC Virtuosa one year later.

The MSC World Class series ships are the fifth one ordered by MSC Cruises to Chantiers de l’Atlantique. The first two ships of the series, for which the order was announced in May 2017, plus the potential two additional ships announced in January 2020 will increase the number of MSC Cruises ships built by Saint-Nazaire Shipyard to 21. Those four ships should be delivered one after another between 2022 and 2027. MSC Europa, the first of this new series to be delivered, will be the largest ship ever built for a European shipowner. It will be equipped with all the latest technologies to offer the passengers an unprecedented cruising experience. Use of LNG will reduce the SOx emission by 99 % and the NOx (nitrogen oxides) by 85 %. Finally, a revolutionary project called PACBOAT will be put to trial on the MSC Europa with the integration of a demonstrator for a new generation, 50 kW fuel cell.

CELEBRITY – Confirmed in December 2014 by RCCL, the order for the Edge Class ships is for a series of five units, with deliveries scheduled in the fall of 2018 for Celebrity Edge, the first of the series, and in 2020, 2021 and 2022 for the next three.

RCI ROYAL CARIBBEAN Intl – The (Modified Oasis Class) series is made of four ships, Harmony of the Seas (2016), Symphony of the Seas (2018), Wonder of the Seas (2022), and the last one, yet to be properly named, called A35 (2024). The last two of the series are longer versions of the firsts two (20 m or 65 ft longer for 130 additional cabins). To this day, they represent the largest passenger ship at sea.

The ships from this series stand out by their concept of “districts” with very different atmospheres and the variety of onboard activities available, making the ship the destination.
