MSC CRUISES – THE FLEET

Mediterranean Shipping Company moves ships around the ocean day and night, over 500, though mostly carrying cargo and containers. They are a major Cruise operator. Few cruise brands have 19 ships in one brand name, and 10 more in production. Since entering the Cruise Ship industry they have grown and are soon to add smaller ships and a luxury yacht class with more than just a 24 hr butler and privacy. See below.

Lyrica Class ships are bigger than the Oceana and Queen Victoria type ships, more the size of the Arcadia but any comparison stops there. They are a development or sub class of the Mistral Class built at Chantiers de l’Atlantique, St. Nazaire, France. The Lirica class goes up to about 250 meters in length, over 2,000 passengers on 9 passenger decks. (13 total)

These ships are more fun and family and less conservative than many UK used ships. Musica Class ships are similar in size to the Ventura and Ruby Princess. These ships are fun and family and perhaps less conservative than many UK used ships. Perhaps a little more like the Princess brand, but essentially a European ship though aimed at the US and rest of the world market. Don’t be fooled by the lack of being able to find a dress code, these ships get dressy. MSC suggest taking a tux for formal nights.

Fantasia Class ships are similar in size to the Britannia. Whilst the Britannia is currently the largest ship at P&O (for another year, two larger ships are ordered) the Fantasia Class is just the upper mid size at MSC. As the name suggests they were designed for families, and to them that means keeping the kids happy, as well as the rest of the family whatever the generation. Meraviglia Class ships are big, with around 5,000 guests. This is the size of the two new P&O ships on order. The Meraviglia Plus class, goes to over 6,200 guests.

The Seaside Class of ships are bigger and aimed at the beach lovers and essentially based out of Miami and the Florida coast for the Caribbean market.
