The KINGDOM of SWEDEN – a wonderful country of many, many islands, where they celebrate summer by singing and dancing, flowers and wine, and trips to their summer houses.

The ferry to Sweden from Helsinki is a very obvious ship, and one I used in the novel Cruise Ship Art theft… which involves the theft of art from ships to Russia and the KGB. The festival is also used…. too much. Cruise Ship Art Theft, I have said too much already.

So, it is the place of great TV drama, great music (not just from ABBA) and the less successful VASA.. the ship that sunk.

It has always been inhabited by Germanic people and had close links with Russia. More recently, in 2022, Sweden applied for NATO membership after the outbreak of war in Ukraine. At the NATO Summit in Madrid, it was invited to join. It is in Northern Europe, and has a bridge and tunnel link to Denmark, borders Norway and to the East is Finland.

The currency is the Swedish krona. kr. It has always voted against the Euro.

About Us

Doris Visits is just a working hobby, and a way of helping people research ports and ships. It is our way of giving back as we are on the ships between 6 and 12 times a year as Guest Lecturers. The site is also supported by other guest lecturers and quest workers.

Why Doris? It was a character Jean played in a TV show and we started the port guides as a little spin-off. It took over. I mean, rode into town and said this is it.

Who is Jean? Jean is a West End and Broadway actress who now has her own one woman show called Royal Mistresses, which she performs at guilds and on ships. Hence, she cruises – a bit. She now presents TV and is known by many cruisers for her Doris Visits port guides.

Who is Stuart? Featured in a clip in the 2024 Oscars – in the tribute to movie stuntmen – he was the Queen Alien in Aliens. Now, he points the iPhone at Jean when they go and explore ashore. He finished in movies as a director, and now writes cruise thrillers.
