What to do in Mayotte, Comoros

Mayotte is surrounded by a coral reef, so the seas and snorkelling are the main attraction. It is the oldest of the four large islands of the Comoros archipelago. When Comoros voted for independence in the 1970s, Mayotte voted to remain a French overseas territory with its capital in Dzaoudzi. It is therefore politically separate from the rest of the archipelago. The locals speak Comoran, French and Arabic.

Prefect Beach, Plage Moya, Plage Sakouli, Plage N’Gouja, Tahiti Plage, and Plage Tanakari tend to be favourites. The botanical gardens, the Jardin Botanique de Coconi are a feature of the island. There is also a museum.

We list these not to sell you the tours, though Get Your Guide do have many excellent private guides and tour options, but, reading through what the locals offer you at a destination, reveals what is there. Local tours (allow time to load) as shown by GET YOUR GUIDE. Always remember a ship tour offers the protection of waiting for the trip to return if it is running late.
