TRINCOMALEE, Sri Lanka – What to do in Trincomalee

Trincomalee is a port guarded by 17th century Fort Frederick built by the Portuguese with stones from the temples. The Koneswaram Temple is on Swami Rock cliff which is a good place to sit for a while blue-whale watching. There is a massive statue of Shiva and other shrines. Also, see Gokanna Temple which has a good view of the city and coastline and the Thirukoneswaram Temple. The flocks of pigeons and other animals on Pigeon Island are in many tours, plus the waters in the Kinniya hot wells.

We list these not to sell you the tours, though Get Your Guide do have many excellent private guides and tour options, but, reading through what the locals offer you at a destination, reveals what is there. Local tours (allow time to load) as shown by GET YOUR GUIDE. Always remember a ship tour offers the protection of waiting for the trip to return if it is running late.
