Formerly known as Thomson Cruises, Marella Cruises has steadily grown since it’s rebranding in 2017. Owned by TUI UK and Ireland, it is a part of the larger German TUI Group. Two new ships are currently being delivered to the German arm Mein Schiff, and two new ships are on order to be delivered around 2030.
The new British ships, that will be approximately 120,000GT and carry around 3,200 passengers, which represents a number of milestones for Marella Cruises, which to date has taken older ships released by its German arm.
Almost ready for delivery to the German brand is the second vessel, “Mein Schiff Flow,” which Doris Visits got a glimpse of, under construction at the Fincantieri, Monfalcone shipyard. It is slightly bigger than the ships aimed at the UK market. This German ship is in the InTUItion Class –
- 333 meters length (1,092 ft 6 in)
- 42 meters width (138 ft 1 in)
- 160,000 GT
- 18 passenger decks
- 3,984 passengers
- 1,535 Crew
The new British ships will not be in the dual fuel InTUItion Class, but custom-designed for the British market and will have a strong focus on environmental sustainability. With elegant design, premium materials, and a wide range of spacious accommodations, they will redefine premium
Deliveries of the two British units are scheduled for 2030 and 2032.
Rumours still abound about new ships for P&O. They can be hidden in bulk orders for and by Carnival that are allocated nearer to completion. We have heard that they are looking for Britannia size ships to join the P&O brand next which would make sense. They could then take over the place of the Azura and Ventura as fly and no-fly buddies on the popular routes and release the two Grand Class ships for something more eclectic. However, the new ships on order are not that size. Carnival have two more Excel Class ships and three mega ships on order. Who knows the future? I guess we will all know at the same time.
