QUEEN ANNE, in bits at half launch

Cunard’s new Pinnacle-class ship, Queen Anne, has been floated out. Or the front has.

Ships are so huge they are built in sections, that is not the only reason; it was worked out that they could be built quicker in different yards working at the same time, then joined together. The first section of the MS Queen Anne, Cunard’s newest ship, was floated out at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Castellammare di Stabia.

The lower forward section of the hull slipped down the slipway and into the sea. At 116-meter it is the longest block ever built at the Fincantieri Castellammare di Stabia shipyard. It is so large that the shape of the ship can already be imagined. The block will be towed by tug boats to Monfalcone, where it will be joined with its other parts.
