The St Dionysios monastery and Church are quite extensive so we have given them their own film. The Zakinthos guide can be found here. This film is of the Monastery built in 1948 which resisted the earth quake. It is at the other end of the port to the main town, the southern end. As is the 1633 Mary the Virgin Church seen on the main film. The bell tower is a copy of St Marks in Venice, surrounded by many bulbs and lit at night. Inside the ceiling frescoes by Doxaras are impressive. The brilliantly carved iconostasis by Bafas and silver sarcophagus are in the side chapel to the right of the alter and there is also the door to the monastery museum. The sarcophagus is paraded round the town in festival times.
