The light show is a collection of art installations. It is not a Christmas market and by the time you take the Christmas Markets cruise, the people of Amsterdam will have had their Christmas. The decorations will still be up, and it is festive, but the focus is on this boat trip. It is best done with a bottle of wine, and the 20 or so light installations are well spaced on the 75 minute boat trip. Many of the boats steam up in the cold, and the roof will need to be opened for the over head shows, so choosing a position is not easy.
We have a film on Amsterdam, and one on the lock that takes the ships in from the sea and protects Holland from flooding as it is below sea level in many places. The ship almost parks next to central station as you will see from the film. See our tours page to book Anne Frank’s house well in advance. It is a ticket only venue, tickets only sold on-line, and books out up to a month in advance. Do not try to get in without a ticket, the security staff are far from friendly. The cafe next door is not part of the house and the one round the corner, Black and Blue, just along from the Tulip Museum (worth a visit) is a much nicer and more relaxed choice.
