What to do in Tunis, Tunisa

If the locals are trying to sell something, it is because it is an attraction.  Some good, some manufactured. By looking at the tours offered locally you can research what there is to be seen.

The problem here is there is too much to do. Carthage was destroyed by the Romans, so the history here is colourful. Check how far each tour is from Tunis as some wonderful places take wonderful journeys.

Discover the towns of Carthage (23 minutes from Tunis) and Sidi Bou Said. See Carthage National Museum and the city’s ancient ruins. Or relax on the beach, or up in a stunning cliff-top town as you take a leisurely stroll through winding cobbled streets. This is your likely destination.

2hrs away – you can discover the largest Roman monument left in Africa at the El Jem amphitheatre. Visit the last 29th-century Aghlabite Basins which were among the greatest waterworks of the Middle Ages and learn about the Kairouan golden age. Kairouan is 2 hours away from Tunis, and nearer to the port of Sousse. It dates to about the year 670, and for Muslims, it is a special place; 7 trips here are said to equal one hajj to Mecca.

76km away from Tunis is the minaret of the Great Mosque of Testour and its unique clock. Not for a day visit.

Our own films, made at various destinations, try to show what a cruiser can expect. As one person’s meat is another one’s poison, by looking at the film you might discount some places, and decide on another. Cathedral, museum, gardens, town walk …… or beach. We show as much as we can film each time we stop on a ship.

Research starts here. Local tours (allow time to load) as shown by GET YOUR GUIDE – what the locals offer.

Always remember a ship tour offers the protection of waiting for the trip to return if it is running late.
